Default 775 DUAL VSTA and ATI HD3850 ???

Hi all,

Long time no see.

I have been running my 775 Dual VSTA for quite sometime with an ATI 850XT AGP card, and got the itch lately to upgrade.

I noticed the ATI 3850 has an AGP version and thought, what the heck, DX10, good performance, why not?

Question is, will it play nice with my ASROCK 775 motherboard?
I know the asrock is persnickery with some PCIE cards, so there you go.

Is anyone running this combo successfully?!

Thanks in advance!

Oh, and thanks to ASROCK for over a year of solid great performance!

I'm sorry to bump my post....anybody have any experience with the above?
How about running a higher end PCIE card like the 3850 or the newer 4850/70 on this.
My thought is that I might just get a PCIe card and try it in this 775DUALVSTA then replace the MB if it doesn't work. The 4850s are SO cheap compared to the boards of yore....

I can confirm that Gigabyte Radeon HD 4850 works with 4coredual-sata2. BIOS option PCI Downstream Pipeline must be disabled, otherwise there will be massive corruption graphics in games. But I am happy with this combination.

Heh, you must be from Hardforum?

I just installed a 4850 in my 775DualVsta and it works GREAT.
I am so psyched.
I also turned PCIE Downstream Pipeline off, but didn't test it with it on.

At any rate I am getting 3dmark06 benchies of 8832 on this with NO tweaking. Not too shabby!

It has an update of BIOS (version 3.10), which has a patch for the HD3850/3870 PCIE cards.

I believe that upgrading the BIOS of the motherboard correct any possible inconsistency.

Yeah, I see now. Interesting, the HD4850 worked on my MB without this last bios update. Any idea what this "fixes"?

I'll check when I get home. I think I am running 2.50 though.
