But if you plan to purchuse a new notebook (or netbook) Windows 7 will be a better choice. Personally I don't think that Vista is that bad - you just have to have appropriate hardware for that. Purchasing notebook with 1.5Ghz Celeron and 512MS of memory was a BIG mistake - now every notebook has a dual core cpu, at least 1GB (and 3GB is nothing uncommon) of system memory, and a pretty fast hard drive.
But Windows 7 is an improvement (some would say anything is better then Vista ;P ), it would be odd to purchase something older if you can haeve a newer and better software.
