i upgraded to chb1129 to set my cpu at 133 since my ram will not run at 133.. so i set the bios to 133/100 and it will not boot, reset cmos and it boots....
[have to run cpu at 133 since ram will only run at 100, it is pc133 pny 256x2]
any ideas?
ECS K7S5A SiS® 735 SOCKET A MOTHERBOARD - RETAIL
xp2000+
all from newegg.com
im thinking i may have gotten the wrong bios? id like to fix this since a ram upgrade is a few months away.
bit annoying going from dual 514mhz celerons to a xp2000 that runs underclocked so used to overclocking 366mgz to 514 and now im 600mhz slower because my pc133 pny wont run at 133fsb and be stable.. bit annoying..
did i get the wrong bios? are older ones better for 133/100? do i need to change anything else? my dad says i need to change the agp but i dont think so, not sure. im stuck, so used to my Award bios on the bp6, lets you pick multiplyers and volts.

Ok, sorry for the dupe post...
I have a:
400W ColorCases (Approved) P4/AMD up to 1.4ghz powersupply.
I dunno why I got this one, amd xp2000+ is 1.8ghz..
If i set it 133/133 it will boot and start linux, it will lockup after 5-10mins because of the ram.. so the PSU does do the 1.8ghz but the problem I have now is i cant even boot at 133/100, the computer will turn on but it will post nothing.
Hostname: localhost - OS: Linux 2.4.20
ECS K7S5A
CPU: AMD XP 2000+ running at 1200mhz displays as:
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) Processor 1261.243 MHz (2516.58 bmips)
Mem 512mb pc133 PNY 2x256mb
PNY Nvidia GF4 Ti4200 64mb 4x AGP non-overclocked
WD 120gb 7200rpm HD
WD 30gb 5400rpm HD
Is this all you need?
So, i normaly run 100/100 so my memory can run fine, i run 133/133 it will post, boot, run linux and work perfectly fine for 5-10mins then lockup because of memory.
After bios upgrade if i run 133/100 it will not post, computer will turn on and hd's will spool but it will not post at all. Reset cmos and it changes back to 100/100 and it will post.
Now I do assume that if i can run 133/133 my PSU is capable of running it at 1.8ghz.
13. Why does my system works perfectly with 100/100 FSB but then will not boot when placed at 133/133 FSB?
this is not a problem for me..

2 things I can suggest:
1. Don't bother trying to run async (eg 133/100) coz the chipset does not like it
2. If it is your memory that is causing the lockups at 133/133 then perhaps your memory timings in the advanced settings of the bios are too 'aggressive'. Try normal or safe, 3T-7T-4T. If your memory is PC133 then it should run at that speed or you should get your money back!

Please check the PSU voltages lines especially the 3.3V line - if it's too low the SDRAM gets problems as it's dierectly feeded by the 3.3V Line from the PSU
Try to remove one stick of RAM and rerun 133/133
Or you have to do the chipset heatsink mod

..
so far this fixes it, hasnt locked up yet.. however this is not acceptable, 1.2ghz + 512mb ram is better then 1.6ghz and 256mb of ram.. and what if it does this when i upgrade to 2x512pc2100? that would suck.
changed memory setting to 3-7t-4t, anything lower? tryed another setting and it didnt post, id like to get this fixed.. emergin lm_sensors now so i can try to oc the xp2000.

still crashes w/ 133 and 1 stick of ram, ran a little longer tho but still locks up..
im runing 110/110 now, 100mhz faster, and again it appears to be fine..
so ram isnt the issue, well, it prolly is,its pny ram, good stuff for what it is, so i dunno..
i set it ram to Safe 3t-7t-4t..

I think you have fixed your own problem - removing another stick of memory reduces the load on the psu - inparticular the TCO and the 3.3v line, please read the PSU FAQ for the specifications required to run your setup, in particular the 3.3v and 5v max amps, can you post what voltgaes you get and also the specs printed on the side of the psu?
It may also be good to check the temps, of the cpu and case? does leaving the side of the case off help?

well i cant get the specs on the PSU its from colorcases and is rated for 1.4ghz... but now im running it at 1.5ghz, 123?fsb i think was the option i picked.. i swear its the ram.
cant get lm_sensors installed yet to see the temps but i have um 4 case fans, cpu fan and gfx fan, and my side door fan is for exhaust and the air is always mildly warm never hot but the cpu can still be hot, doubt it since its on a oem heatsink and fan, amd wouldnt make that setup if it dindnt cool the cpu at its rated speed
again i swear its ram, thus the reason i want to boot at 133/100 but still nobody has given me a solution to the 'no post at 133/100' problem
