I have a 7SID and recently it is having problems booting up.
When I switch on the PC, the floppy light comes on and it tells me my BIOS is corrupted & it is now in 'boot block' mode. It also wants me to insert system disk. If I then switch off the PC by powering off using the button on the PSU, then flick the switch back on, then boot up the PC in the normal manner, it boots up with no problem.
What's the matter with the board? Do I have to reflash the bios? If so how can I reflash? What should I do if the aforementioned method doesn't work anymore? How can I recover the BIOS?
This problem started today, and my PC is nearly 6 mths old. The problem is so wierd that I tested it by powering off then back on again (not rebooting), and it happens everytime I tested it.
What's wrong?? The computer is very important as I need it for assignment work.
Pls note that the BIOS date is 6 Aug 2001 & I have not flashed it. The problem just appeared out of the blue today.

Looks like your BIOS is corrupted. You would need to reflash the BIOS.

Can a BIOS get corrupted on its own?
What I don't understand is that sometimes I can boot normally but sometimes not.

Enermax 365w.
I've been using that since I first used the computer.
There have been no problems beforehand.

Well it is easy to flash the BIOS, just put the BIN on a floppy then enter the built in flasher. Make sure BIOS flash protection and virus protection is off.
Need more, ask Juneven in his thread.

clarence,
Clear the cmos on your board (by shorting it) remove the power cables to the mb, and also try replacing the cmos battery with a new one ......?
Another trick, replace the jumper cap with another one that fits tight (possible fix from this forum) for the persistant "Checksum error" that plagues some of these cheap mb's and may be affecting the bios (corrupting) in some way....?

Well these aren't really cheap motherboards, this one costs much more than ECS, and it has no lan and is smaller.

Thanx for the replies.
As I depend on my computer for my University courseworks, I've swapped the board for a Soltek.
I shall take it back for repairs in Hong Kong (where I bought it) and probably install it into one of my computers there.
