AMD is about to release the Athlon 64 FX-55 chip next week to counter the new series of Intel processors which we mentioned on this news page some days ago. The chip is expected to be unveiled on Tuesday, along with the AMD Athlon 64 4000+, the top rated CPU from AMD. According to information, the A64 FX-55 offers an overall performance improvement of 8.7 percent over the Athlon 64 4000+.
Intel will release the P4 EE processors starting from 3.46GHz to compete head on soon. The extreme edition improves performance with additional cache.

8.7 % improvement sounds like cow manure to me, and cow manure will be a lot cheaper..still, it will be faster than anything Intel throws at it :D

3.46GHz = FSB 1066 maybe? Sounds like an odd number to derive from 200. That's a step forward if Intel are actually announcing it...

As I understand there are no actual advantage of A64-FX55 between him and PIV 3.46 on the highest chipsets from the both sides?

The FX-55 is overall a better CPU when compared to the P4 3.46. Not incredibly better, but better - and slightly cheaper.
Regarding the chipsets, the highest performing AGP cards are at about the same level as the highest performing PCI-e cards, so there is little difference in chipsets for the P4 or for the K8. The other features are comparable so there is no advantage for either platform.
The one sore point is that the P4 3.46 platform forces you to go to fast DDR2 for good performance. Comparing the prices of fast DDR2
with low-latency DDR400, you'll notice DDR2 is twice as expensive or more.
If you are configuring a system with 4GB of RAM, that could add up to an extra $1000 or more for the P4 3.46.
So the logical choice is the AMD FX-55.

As someone said, Intel only will have 1 Dual Core with shared cache ( Intel says this is Superior Technology ), the other Intel Dual Cores use the same cache system as AMD Intels best CPU with the most promise long term is Pentium M. As long as we get value for money, any CPU will be good
