Is this a problem? If my monitor is unpowered when I power up my K7S5A system, my monitor is not identified properly in the hardware manager (Windows 98 1st Edition). It comes up as an "unknown monitor". The resolution and refresh rates also default to some sort of generic setting.
If I restart with the monitor "on", it is then properly identified as an Envision En-710. The screen resolution and refressh setting are also corrected.
Is this a problem with my K7S5A losing its monitor settings or is this just the way Windows 98 works?
Bob
Here is some system info:
K7S5A
950 MHz Duron
256 Meg of PC133 SDRAM (2 128 meg sticks)
Windows 98 1st Edition

That seems to make sense to me. If you have your monitor turned 'off', then the system thinks you don't even have a monitor and loads up the minimum settings. Then when you turn your monitor 'on', it has only one possible setting.
I always turn my monitor on first. Actually, I have a 'smart' power strip that senses the computer power and it powers on all the connectors (like speaker power and monitor power) automatically as my system boots up.

Thanks Karl,
That makes sense to me also. It's just that I'm a long time Mac user and this Windows stuff is new to me. ;)

Do a search for Monitor.inf. More then likely you'll have 3 diffenent ones. If you monitor has driver for it i.e one that came on a disk or windows has one for it then all you have to do is go into device manager monitor and change it. or what would be alot easyer is right click on the screen go to properties settings, Advanced, monitor and then change. You should have more the one choose, and change it from there.
