I have two USB devices plugged into my K7S5A: a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 mouse, a Logitech WingMan Cordless Rumblepad gamepad. The mouse works fine every time I start/reboot my computer. The Logitech gamepad does not, however. About half the time I start/reboot my computer (seems to make no difference if it's a cold boot, warm boot, reboot, whatever) the gamepad doesn't get power. If I unplug the gamepad and plug it back in again, then it gets power and starts working properly. That's annoying, though. I'd prefer the darn thing to work without my intervention.

I don't know what numbers are assigned to the different ports on the K7S5A. The mouse (that works 100% of the time) is plugged into the port that's nearest to the board -- the bottom port. The gamepad (that works 50% of the time) is plugged into the port farthest away from the board -- the top port.

Any ideas?

I am running XP, and already have tried usbdetect.exe -- it doesn't help.

OMG! Thats the exact same problem I have on my Win98 System. But I already have fix for it, and thats to enabled NVRAM/ESCD updates, but when I do that I have shutdown/restart problems. So I leave it disable, and suffer with unpluging it in out on every restart.

Can't help you with XP specific problems(win9X guru)
However here's what I would do as I'm a big Logitech fan( I use a Logi mouse/joystick and gamepad with my ECS K7S5A in any combination I like e.g USB/PS2 or game port).
Remove all the software for the logitech.Go to the Wingman site,
http://www.wingmanteam.com/
Get the latest best drivers.
If you have problems e-mail the guys.Unlike the main company the Wingman guys will answer.

Let me throw in my 2 cents. Try running the mouse on a PS2 port first. With the gamepad and mouse both in the USB ports, there may be too much power drawn during start ups. If the gamepad works perfect by itself, then you can try using a powered hub to connect both.

fishbert: I have Win98 SE, you have XP, and I dont know if NVRAM/ESCD option is in XP?

Here's how to get to it;

NVRAM/ESCD

On the Device Manager tab, double-click System Devices .

Click Plug and Play BIOS , and then click to select the Disable NVRAM / ESCD updates check box on the Settings tab.

Click OK , click OK , and then restart your computer.

I don't think it's a matter of drivers. The device never gets power when XP boots. I think I might try the beta drivers anyway -- perhaps they'll solve the screwy controls in FIFA 2002.
