I am planning on building a new computer
these are the specs
processor - 1 Ghz Duron
HSF - I don't know can u recommend a cheap one to me because i don't plan on overclocking
motherboard - ECS k7S5A
soundcard - none
videocard - Hercules 3d prophet 4500 (kyro 2)
harddrive - Maxtor 40gb 5400 rpm
power supply - 300w?
ram - 256mb ddr
I see that a lot of people are having problems with this motherboard but all all of the seem to be with high end processors and I was wondering if the duron 1Ghz has a lot of problems with this motherboard. Also I want to get a cheap heatsink and i don't plan on overclocking so i was wondering if a Volcano 2 is good enough for this processer and will it fit?. Lastly, I am confused about what power supply to get, would a 300w power supply that comes with cases be good enough for this system?.
Thankyou for your time.

Hi prodigy05, from my limited experience with the K7S5A mobo', I would recommend you seek out a good quality PSU, you may be lucky and get one with your new case, but who knows? My old 300W PSU worked fine with my old Iwill KK266-R mobo' + Athlon 1200@1400, but had problems with cold boots and certain pci cards, but a new AMD approved 400W PSU solved both these problems. You don't have to pay over the odds either for a decent PSU, just shop around and check out any reviews if you can find then. Hope this helps you.

i assume u will have a cd drive, too...
get an amd recommended psu and then rma the board if it misbehaves...
and u r probably better off with a geforce card for the same price as the kyro... better overall support and compatibility...
the old rule applies to computers like anything else, if u r going to keep it for a couple years and depend on it, don't buy the cheapest u can find... go to newegg.com (if u r in the usa) and u can get a good case/psu for >$60 shipped...

thanks a lot but I am kind of a newbie and I was wondering about what does RMA mean?
also A Geforce will not cost me the same as a Kyro 2. A 64mb Geforce2 MX400 will cost me 90 dollars, and Kyro 2 will cost 125 dollars, and a geforce 2 ti will cost me 200 dollars and these are all CANADIAN prices.

Well, I bought an AOpen AX45 case which included its own 250W PSU which IS approved by AMD.
I put a Duron 900 on it with a Coolermaster EP5-6i11-A1 and standard thermal grease.
It works beautifully.
The board is rev.4 and RAM is Infineon CAS2 DDR.

RMA "Return Merchandise Authorization", more like returning the product for whatever reason. Make sure the place you are picking up your stuff has good RMA policy, just in case you need to return stuff that doesn't work.
