Wave sound stuttering and repeating with SB Live!
Posted by overclocker at 17:01

One of the ways that I used, disable SB 16 Emulation in Device manager. Below is an extract from Creative Support website

This problem occurs if the resource configuration of the card is set incorrectly. The SB Live! card takes two interrupt requests (IRQ's) one is IRQ5 which defaults to the SB 16 emulation and one of the higher range 9,10, 11 for the SB Live! entry under Sound Video and Game controllers in the Device Manager. This allocation may be reversed causing the repeating sound problem.

To check the IRQ allocation:

Select -Start - Settings - Control Panel - System - Device Manager - Creative Miscellaneous Devices - Creative SB Live! SB 16 emulation - Properties - Resources.

Ensure that the IRQ setting is 5. If another device is using IRQ 5 you can remove it temporarily and reinstall it after the installation of the SB Live.

By selecting the very first icon (computer) in your Device Manager you can view the resource allocation for all your devices.

In the SB Live entry under Sound Video and Game Controllers the IRQ setting will be either 9,10 or 11

It is important to note that resources for PCI devices can only be allocated at a BIOS level. Therefore for further information you may need to refer to your system documentation.

· Lower the hardware acceleration of the SB Live! and graphics cards.

· In the BIOS under PNP/PCI Configuration set PNP INSTALLED to "No"

· Get the latest Bus Mastering drivers.

· Update the BIOS version.

· Disable IRQ steering in the Device Manager via System Devices - PCI Bus - IRQ Steering - uncheck Use IRQ Steering.
