I must confess not knowing what aspects of SP2 are the cuase of this.
More the reason I felt I needed to ask if its not possible for M$ to allow enable/disable of such aspects (if even in part).
That way if say a security aspect was to blame, I had the choice to disable that aspect and somewhat compromise my secuirty if I so wished. As it may be more imprtant for me to have certain programs working.
Just seems too much of a radical sacrifice if noticable number of programs will not function correctly after a OS update.

I know somethings need to be inplaceas pre-requisites to other things. But im sure that can be dealt with when the user finds the need to install those other aspects (at which point they can make there decision).

Also does this mean that WinXP 64bit is going to have the same or similair backward comp issues ?

How do other people feel about this ?

Tried the Beta... Don't think I will go down that road again. I do not like having to have internet connection firewall enabled. With 4 machines on a lan, you can't access any other computer with the firewall up, or I haven't figured it out yet.

I would run 2K Pro on my server, but haven't figured out the security settings yet, may look into that some day, It is alot easier to network XP machines, but not if you have the firewall up.

Firewall or NAT (or both) on internet connection - no firewalls on the LAN.

If you open certain ports on the firewall (or forward them from NAT) towards your server, you could have easy external connection to your LAN, Using secure telnet or sshd, or even the VNC. Remote desktop could be used as well.

You could try Win2K3, if you need a server - easy to configure. Otherwise, there are some good Linux distros with same, if not better, functionality.

I really wouldn't be in a hurry to install this. The near term benefits of installing this are far outweighed by the dangers of installing this.

Try "windows update" to get SP2,..that’s my guess anyway,..

Here is one of my concerns,...

The new Firewall may very well be much improved but will it allow M$ traffic through no matter what!?!
