Sorry to disappoint every one here. I got 38 old Ultra-sparc II 440/450Mhz CPUs running for me, with a quiet mode text cient and I bind each client to 1 CPU. This only contributes a third of the output. The rest of it comes from another 6 machines new Sun machines Ultra-sparc III 900Mhz (8MB L2 cache) under stress test currently (Guess what using the protien folding client that gives 99-100% user times). I do not know how long I can "loan" these machines.

I stress, this is a temporary event ...

Its always good to see fast folder on OCW Team.

Sparcs are beautiful systems - until we can get our hands on A64 at 6 GHz, with 64-bit OS and 64 bit client, no consumer system can beat it!

So, stress those systems, Bong 88, even if it is going to be for short time!

actually, consumer systems do very well against Ultra Sparc machines.... take a look at the 1-2 cpu submissions at spec.org

the Ultra Sparc machines are considered the low end of the big unix machines... it has to contend with I2, Alpha, PA-RISC, Power4/5

but those are beyond the reach of most people... even most small-medium companies
