ABIT IT7-MAX2 V2
Out of the box problem and Question

I purchased a Corsair CMX512-3500C2 for this board! it is supposed to support it.

See Sight:
http://www.corsairmicro.com/main/compat/abit-p4.htm

Using that ram with that board all i got was a long constant beep?

I was under the impression that Higher ram would only revert to a lower speed. At least until you get in the bios to tweak it.

I bouht a cheap piece of 128mb pc2100, Just to see if it would boot. And it does, No fancy settings needed other than teling it i was using a 2.4 133.

My big Question is did I buy a piece of bad ram?
or do I need to tweak settings using working ram, Shutdown change ram, & reebooot ??

Judging from your story I think you got yourself a dead memory module. That board should love corsair .
Best way of course should be to try it in someone else's mainboard.
Or try using another dimm slot.

Good luck

I agree. Even the mighty Corsair has their share of doa's and faulty chips. I myself had one. Their RMA process is awesome though. Had my ram back in less than a week! They are still the best IMHO.

I've bought 2 x 512MB of the same modules, it can only run with one of them at a time... If both are inserted it works, but isn't that stable - even when it's not overclocked it'll go down sometime. I wish Abit would release a BIOS to fix this since I tried the two modules in the older IT7 MAX2 board and they ran without any problems.

Could also be an overstressed PSU. Check your voltages when you use 2 dimm slots.

I've only got a good 400W running the system, so that might be it. It's currently running 4 harddrives, 2 CD-ROM drives, the system (2,667) and a VapoChill cooling unit.

I'll try your advise. Thanks

Didn't do it I think, ran all drives on another PSU the system still crashed while playing. :/

I got the same mother board and run 2 XMS3200 Cas CL 2 (400MHz} 512 each with no problems. They do seem to be giving me lousy benchmarks though even at 2,5,2,2 settings, On the low side compared to other 845 chipped Motherboards. With the same processor.
