ECS buying into ABIT and ABIT is outsourcing to ECS
Posted by overclocker at 11:29

Abit Computer has joined other companies in outsourcing to Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS), in a move that illustrates the heightened cost pressure second-tier board makers face in fighting their bigger, cost-efficient rivals. To cut costs, Abit decided in June to source all of its low-end boards to ECS.

Meanwhile, with the partnership between Abit and ECS strengthening, market rumors are circulating that Abit will downsize its plant in Taoyuan County, and that people with links to ECS may buy a substantial stake in Abit recent issue of 100 million new shares.

The company priced the shares at NT$16 per share. The share placement began on July 9 and will last for a month.

From the above report from Digitimes.com, it is rumoured that ECS might be a big shareholder of ABIT if the rumour is true.

I personally have nothing against ECS I find that they do a good job at providing decent boards at a low cost. I think buying in to ABIT could be a great move for them. This may be what they needed to help them keep there share of the market with the new ASUS backed company getting started. Keeping in mind though that at this point this is just a rumor right?

I also didn’t know that companies like ABIT started outsourcing to ECS. I wonder what if any benefits that might have for us as consumers. Anyone else have any thoughts on any of this?

How long has this been going on? Like have some of these boards already hit the shelves or is this a fairly new arrangement just being put in to action?
